Your Employment Equity Plan may be scrapped next year to suit government-imposed targets.

The Employment Equity Act is set to be amended in 2022. Self-regulation, the Director of Employment Equity said, has not worked. The amendments include:

- The Minister can set  employment equity targets for different sectors.
- The Minister can set targets for occupational levels, sub sectors or regions
- 5 year sector targets.

The targets will add rules for doing business with the government.

All current employment equity plans will fall away on 22 September 2022, and the new plans will have to be aligned with five-year targets.

The Department has consulted with all 18 economic sectors including the mining, financial & business services, wholesale & retail, and construction.  The department is analysing the written submissions in response to the proposed sector employment equity targets.  The sector engagements should be concluded by February 2022.
