Protest action on 6 October 2023.

In response to the pressing economic crisis in South Africa, COSATU will lead protest action on Friday 06 October 2023.

Nedlac has stated that COSATU has complied with the requirements of the Labour Relations Act for this type of socio-economic protest action.

Any employees participating in the protests are protected under the Act. The employers’ approach is no work, no pay, no disciplinary action.

The protest will take the form of marches and pickets.

The day marks the International Day for Decent Work campaign, and is a protest against, amongst others, stopping retrenchments purely to maximise profits, reducing the fuel price by the 28% allocated to tax, filling public service vacancies, adding 1 million young people in October 2023 and a further 2 million in February 2024 of the Presidential Employment Programme, intensify the fight against crime and corruption, support to rebuild Eskom, allocating additional resources to SARS to tackle tax evasion, institute lifestyle audits of the wealthy and increase revenue to fund public services.
