Employment and Labour Minister Nxesi addressed NEDLAC, putting UIF measures in place to assist distressed companies and quarantined employees:

CCMA postpones all matters for COVID-19

The CCMA has issued an urgent directive in response to COVID19.

From 18 March 2020 until 14 April 2020:

*  All matters set down by the CCMA are postponed.
*  All CCMA processes involving face-to-face interaction are postponed.
*  Nobody may enter the CCMA offices for enquiries or serving/delivering processes or documents.
* Referral of disputes can only be made by post, email and fax. [Read More…]

The virus is a highly transmittable respiratory disease, and transmitted similar to flu: contact with another infected person, or surface.

Employer’s obligation

Employers have a legal obligation (Occupational health and Safety Act) to provide and maintain a safe and healthy environment and to take reasonable steps to limit the risk to employees, and of outbreak.

Paid or unpaid sick leave, annual leave or special leave.
