METAL INDUSTRIES STRIKE AND LOCK OUT.

SEIFSA served notice of a defensive lockout in in response to NUMSA’s declaration of strike action, which to commence on Tuesday, 5 October 2021.

The lockout is the employers refusal to allow employees to work unless they accept a negotiating proposals set by the employer organisations.

The principle of no work, no pay applies in a protected lockout.

Employers can use replacement labour during a protected defensive lockout.

The lockout is not compulsory, and employers can choose to lock-out if they see the situation warrants it.
